Dr. Werner Kistler is a German Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and European Trademark and Design Attorney and has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2005.

He holds a degree in physics from the Technical University of Munich with distinction and completed his studies at the Chair of Theoretical Physics at the Technical University of Munich with a doctorate with distinction.

His research activities as a post-doc at the Chair of Robotics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and as Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Erasmus University in Rotterdam focused on the theory of neural networks, machine learning and theoretical neurobiology.

Before turning to intellectual property law, Dr. Werner Kistler worked as a management consultant for medium-sized companies as well as large international corporations. Dr. Werner Kistler gained his experience in the field of intellectual property law in many years as a patent attorney at a major German law firm. He has been working for Samson & Partner since 2023.

In addition to his work in grant proceedings before the various German and European patent and trademark offices, Dr. Werner Kistler increasingly represents clients in opposition and appeal proceedings before the German and European Patent Offices as well as in nullity proceedings before the Federal Patent Court and the Federal Supreme Court. He is regularly involved in infringement proceedings in connection with the assertion of an entire portfolio of standard essential patents. Dr. Werner Kistler advises large corporations as well as medium-sized companies in the field of information and communication technology, in particular in the areas of video coding, Wi-Fi and mobile communications, as well as in the field of electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.
