Dr. Thomas Behrens is a German Patent Attorney, and a European Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney. He has been with Samson & Partner since 2011.

He holds both a diploma and a Ph.D. in physics from Technical University of Munich (TUM). His research work centered around nuclear structure physics and particularly concerned the structure of neutron-rich atomic nuclei. He conducted his Ph.D. work inter alia at CERN in Geneva (Switzerland), where he carried out accelerator experiments as part of an international research collaboration. He gained significant experience in the construction and commissioning of semiconductor detectors, experimental data acquisition and the development of analysis software.

In addition to his work in patent prosecution before the German and European Patent Offices, Dr. Behrens assists in the representation of clients in opposition, appeal, and nullity proceedings before the German and European Patent Offices, as well as before the Federal Patent Court. He is also regularly involved in infringement proceedings for multinational corporations.

The technical focus of his work in our firm is in the fields of medical technology, information and communication technology, electrical engineering, mechanics and optics.
