Dr. Christian Kern is a German Patent Attorney as well as a European Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney. He has been working in the field of intellectual property law since 2020.
Dr. Kern studied physics at ETH Zurich, from which he holds a master's degree with distinction. He obtained his doctorate at the Institute of Applied Physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology specializing in metamaterials and their experimental realization using ultra-high-resolution 3D printing. For his doctoral thesis, he received the Otto-Haxel Award for Physics (2nd place) and the Dissertation Prize of the Erika and Dr. Wolfgang Eichelberger Foundation. Subsequently, he held scientific positions in applied mathematics at the University of Utah and in the Photonics Initiative at the Advanced Science Research Center in New York City.
His fields of technical expertise in intellectual property protection comprise i.a. applied physics, telecommunications and computer-implemented inventions (software). He is particularly experienced in the fields of photolithography, including extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, 3D printing, optics and photonics, and laser technology.
